Great text!

This is a great text for pharmacology and physiology concerning anesthesia practice. This book reads easily with the required depth and logically flows from subject to subject. It is well written and packed with information for commonly used drugs in anesthesia. Recommend for anyone studying the field including CRNAs, SRNAs, anesthesiology residents, fellows, and attendings.

A keeper!

A Kiss in the Dark is a definite keeper--a fabulous debut by new author Kimberly Logan. It's no surprise that this book won RWA's Golden Heart award. The plot and characters seemed fresh, the pace was quick, and it was a totally engrossing read. Deirdre and Tristan are characters who will stay with you, long after you finish the book. Highly recommended!

Outstanding New Author !!! Splendidly Original Story

Tristan Knight, the Earl of Ellington had heard rumors regarding the notorious widow the Viscountess Rotherby, so when his butler suggested he seek her help in locating his runaway sister he hesitated, but nearly at the end of his rope with no where else to turn, he finally did seek her out. Assuming the worst sort of jaded woman he was quite amazed when his preconceived notions, based on gossip and innuendo, found him facing a beautiful and regally composed young woman instead of the shrewish golddigger he'd conjured up in his mind. Tristan was even more surprised that even in his stressed and desperate circumstances, her very presence aroused in him an intense physical awareness that no woman ever had before.

Deirdre Wilks, the Viscountess Rotherby, was not born to the privileged life she now led, quite the contrary. Her first meeting with the Earl of Ellington, was for her, a life defining moment. It had been 13 long years but she could never forget the handsome young man with the violet eyes holding his dying mother in his arms, and long buried memories came rushing back as she waited to be unmasked. Fearing the recognition which would surely lead to his contempt, she wanted only to be rid of him and refused him her assistance. After a sleepless night, realizing that she was a child when he'd last seen her on that fateful day - she was compelled to help -- she owed him! Deirdre then became his guide through the shadowy alleyways of Tothill Fields, a very dangerous area of the city. Using her contacts they would try to discover information in finding his sister. Forming an uneasy truce, the undeniable chemistry between them grew and although totally intrigued by the woman, Tristan was more than curious over her familiarity with the seedy side of London. As their passion grew, a very old and dangerous enemy from Deidre's past resurfaced in her life that could destroy her newly forged love affair as her past came back to haunt her.

*** This was an awfully good and original read! It was written with an amazing level of intensity and feeling that my heart was pumping furiously with both the palatable passion and the keen sense of danger infused in the story. Deirdre was a beautifully crafted heroine who the reader will immediately want to stand up and cheer for as well as her hero Tristan. The skillfully created secondary characters - members of the Rag Tag gang (Benji will just steal your heart) - also added a wonderful depth of caring and amusement and as Deirdre took them into her heart, the readers, I'm sure, will follow suit. This was not a typical light regency read and is most certainly worthy of the RWA's 2004 Golden Heart award! --- I heartily recommend to all lovers of historical romances to discover this new talent in this genre.

3 1/2 stars. Enjoyable, but by no means a five star book

My first try of Kimberly Logan, and I enjoyed A KISS IN THE DARK. For a debut novel, it's very good. I can only imagine how good her writing will get as her talent develops over the years.

Firstly, the writing style was wonderfully easy to read and quite engaging. It had a nice, flowing style that, for the most part, avoided jarring point-of-view switches and overly complicated sentences. I often feel that writers are trying to impress me with their knowledge of grammar and complicated sentences in their writing, which gets really annoying after a while. Luckly, this is an author who doesn't do that. Her words paint a vivid picture without getting bogged down in the telling.

The character sketches were also fairly well done, although I felt that this book could have used an extra 50 - 100 pages to really flesh them out as well as they deserved. There were a lot of times that I felt like the romance was overwhelmed by the other plotline (Tristan and Deirdre trying to find Tristan's runaway sister, Emily). While that plotline was very well executed, I often felt that the romance was left on the back burner. Also, a few of the problems seemed to be resolved just a little too easily at the end. I found it difficult that Tristan could forgive Deirdre's role in his mother death so quickly and easily after it was revealed.

Still, this was an enjoyable read, and I'm not sorry that I bought this book. I will definitely be on the lookout for more books by Kimberly Logan, as I think she shows great promise, especially considering that this is her first novel. Hopefully her later books will live up to the talent I see in A KISS IN THE DARK. Recommended, but not a five-star book.

The Loss of Java explains in detail the air, sea and land battles between the Allied and Japanese armed forces during the battle for Java that followed the evacuation of southern Sumatra in February 1942. Little has been written about the allied air campaign, or about why Dutch forces fought just one major land battle with the Japanese, the Battle of the Tjiater Pass, in the later stages of the struggle.

Boer considers whether the assessment of Major General Van Oyen that deploying the Allied air forces might prevent Japanese invasion of Java was realistic, and whether reliance on air power limited the capacity of land and naval forces to repel Japan's advances. The generally accepted idea is that the Allies were ineffective in their fight against the Japanese invaders but in fact the Japanese suffered serious losses. Boer's study shows that Dutch strategy grew out of a carefully-devised plan of defense, and that the battle for Java comprised not one (the Battle of the Java Sea) but four major engagements. However, Japanese commanders at various levels consciously took steps that exposed their forces to great risk but succeeded in putting the Allies under great pressure. In the end the Royal Netherlands East Indies Army (KNIL) and the allied forces capitulated on 8 March 1942.

Superb!

Simply a superb work, thoroughly researched, with 500+ pages (the rest devoted to notes, bibliography, index), to give coverage to a mere 3 weeks, the last in the defense of the NEI.

Makes you hope that it will become a groundbreaker, so that other non-english writers begin to translate their work. NEI bibliography, to mention but one example, is very deep and thorough, but almost exclusively written in Dutch.

About everything I have ever read about WWII history in the pacific has stated the Japanese quickly captured Java. This book is a detailed account about the defense of Java. The Dutch, British, and Australians simply did not surrender, they fought hard in many instances in the air and on the ground. However, the allies were dealing with limited resources and outdated equipment. If you want to no more about the fall of Java and want to have a more detailed knowledge of this often looked portion of the Pacific war then this book is for you.

This book great because it's concise, explains just enough, and then gets to the 'goods' quickly. I tried an expedited version of one chant, I began to receive results literally as soon as I was finished with the ritual. I have continued to persevere toward my goal and now, a month later, I am seeing signs of an outpouring greater than anything I could have ever imagined, and greater than anything that has ever happened in the past...if I continue to apply myself.

Additionally, I sent a question to the author and he got back to me. I really appreciate that too. (Please write more books :)

I did 10,000 in one sitting, used 108 bead and 50 cards (2x) to keep count. You can do it in the dark with just a candle. Took 2-3hrs, including a short break. Well worth it for a lifetime of positive change!

Very powerful experience I love chanting and it really is very easy to 'get into the groove as the author says give it a try.UPDATE 18/01/16,Having worked with these chants for a while now I can safely say that they work.I would suggest that these are the first mantras someone new to the subject should try because they are a 'soft' start to chanting consisting as they do of just one word.You will notice the results whether you chant for general attraction or increased mental abilities. Baal kadmon is completely reliable in my opinion and his books have really helped me alot.

Like a New Pair of Glasses

A great read. This is a keeper, for sure. I will be keeping it nearby to use for inspiration. I have almost all of Steve's books and next to Reinventing Yourself,
this one is my favorite. I pre-ordered this book and when it arrived the timing was perfect. I found myself reading several small chapters at a time as the information is useful and each chapter leaves you a changed reader. It is like getting a new pair of glasses and seeing the world from whole new perspective. One chapter about the distinction between expectation and agreement comes to mind. Once you become aware, you will forever change how you lead others.

Get the book. You certainly won't be sorry. The book is filled with ideas that will
change your perspective. You will be more aware, your mind will have shifted.

absolutely helpful and shifting your mind

I have been lucky enough to receive an early copy through Steve's club fearless and discovered a really great book. The chapters usually are quite short so you always can find the spare minutes to read yet another one. For me it worked very good to read some short chapter and then have a day or two to ponder about Steve's insights. His advice is down to earth and very practical though you sometimes find yourself resisting his words as in "oh, it can't be that easy". For the majority of those it took a while until I could process them and now am still working on living along them but nonetheless this book shifted my mind and helped me to explore different point of views on a wide range of situations and thoughts. I am glad this book found it's way to my attention. I learned a lot of things already and will definetely read it again to gain even more from it.

She intuits that he is in danger beyond what he is disclosing. He has, in fact, slipped into secondary post traumatic stress disorder--taking on the pain and symptoms of his client. In a risky gambit, and partly blinded by her own attachment to him, she takes matters into her own hands.

love and survival

"Sessions: Memoirs of a Psychotherapist" gives the reader an extraordinary view of a psychologist's life. The book relates a series of stories of compassion, courage and human experience, all seen through the eyes of the psychologist. The stories speak of suffering, the human capacity to endure, and self-transformation for the sake of life, love and survival. Dr. Foster also portrays remarkable relationships between therapist and client. She shows the struggles of the psychotherapist as she endeavors to help each individual's personal growth, setting aside her own challenges for the sake of others. I found myself fully emerged in each story. The characters are vivid and full of life. I have a greater admiration for mental health professionals as a result of reading this book. Thank you, Dr. Foster, for a wonderful read.

The insights, observations and emotional experiences of a Psychotherapist

My impressions of Psychotherapy had always been shaped by some of the movies I have watched over the years. I imagined that going to a therapist was a lot like Tony Soprano's visits to his psychiatrist, although there are many variations of therapy, which I learned when reading Kathryn Foster's book. In her book "Sessions: Memoirs of a Psychotherapist", I had come to discover that getting psychological help can be a lot like talking to a friend – a friend specially trained to help you through the tough times. When you may engage in certain actions without knowing why, and those actions can make you feel bad. That alone might be enough to lead you toward therapy. In therapy, you can then start to disentangle all of the factors that may be affecting what you do to help you understand why you may be feeling bad about some of your actions and why you may not feel bad about other actions when perhaps you should.

While I have always know that therapists are specially trained to deal with a broad range of issues on an academic level and are paid professionals, I’ve come to discover that most become therapists because they genuinely have a need to help people. So even though you know that you are talking with someone who gets paid to help you, I take comfort in knowing that most therapist really want to help you feel better. What I found so uniquely different and highly interesting in her book is the personal issues that the Psychotherapist must deal with when treating their patients. I would venture to say that most mental health professionals agree that the profession is inherently hazardous. It takes superhuman strength for most people just to listen to a neighbor moan about his lousy marriage for 15 minutes. Psychologists, of course, enter the profession by choice. Based on the insights that was offered in her book, I look forward to reading Kathryn’s other published work.

An elegant style mixed with suspense

Kathyrn Foster's gift of layering both imagery and emotion amidst her prose invites us into a world seldom witnessed: the delicate hard work of a psychotherapist, balancing technical savvy with genuine care and guidance. Foster is a master of detail, without losing the reader in boggy description. Her authentic characters remind us of real people we've met--and the suspenseful undercurrent with Michael keeps us turning pages with fervor.
