James A. Densley is an Associate Professor of Criminal Justice at Metropolitan State University, USA, a member of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system. He received the National Gang Crime Research Center Frederick Milton Thrasher Award for Superior Accomplishments in Gang Research in 2013.

Dr. Densleys’ fieldwork demystifies gang life. The book covers tremendous ground- examining topics from recruitment practices, to gang organization, to pathways of leaving gang life.

What makes this text truly remarkable and unique are the quotable comments from the actual gang members or associates themselves. Whether a student or scholar, if you want to learn firsthand ‘how a gang member thinks’ this is the book for you.

Great book that makes you really think!

Although the title may seem abrasive, it's totally true! This book gives real life examples (that are at times even comical with unbelievable stupidity), but then brings it full circle to talk about what the Bible has to say about how we can avoid those sins in our own life. Whether you've got a major sin issue in your life, or just need a little "tweaking" this book has great insights, a solid scripture basis, and real life application points.

This book is great for individual study, but also has resources for small groups (questions/action points at the end of each chapter) and Pastor Shorkey's website [...] also has videos to accompany each chapter.

Overall, this is a great book and I highly recommend it!

Not for the timid

I found that I couldn't put the book down. Pastor Shorkey gets right to the point. No punches pulled... but with a gentleness at the same time. He explains very well how we cause a disconnect from God and shows us the way to experience His grace and forgiveness. Getting back on the path of Christian growth is exciting. I would recommend this book to anyone that wants to have a real and a deep relationship with God.

It appears the author has decided not to complete this series

I'm giving this only one star because although this came out in 2007 the next book is not yet published. I loved the four books in the series but cannot recommend it because after 9 years the rest of the series should have been done by now. I feel cheated that I wasted my time and money on a series with no conclusion.

This is a great series

I like this series - it has great characters and plenty of action, lots of world building and genuinely worth a try if this is the genre you like.

So why only 3 stars?

I give 5 stars to books I just cannot put down, you know four o'clock in the morning with an exam in five hours, but no way can I stop reading.

I give 4 stars to books I will grudgingly put down at midnight for that exam or job interview tomorrow,

I give three stars to books that I like but can put down from time to time.

The reason for this rating was the fact that throughout the book there are these editing errors of words that get mixed up. For example sow vs sew. I find that when I read that the ladies are sowing by a window, I just crack up laughing at the thought of them throwing seeds round the room. Having cracked up laughing, I need to put the book down because the train of thought has been interrupted and I don't get that obsessive need to turn the page.

It is not recommended for those who hate these sorts of errors. I don't dislike such things, but they do make me giggle to the point where the flow of the novel is interrupted at that point.

Political Thrill Ride! Loved It!

Fast-paced, intelligent, intriguing, and suspenseful!

This a political thrill ride of murder, surveillance, power, and corruption that reminds us that the line between good and evil can be very blurry.

The main character, Kat, is smart, tough, and tenacious. And the supporting characters are multi-faceted and complex.

The story is well written and well plotted with multiple twists and turns that will keep you enthralled to the very end.

This is a highly exciting, action-packed novel that I couldn’t put down.

It was a great read and I highly recommend it.
